No Arrests Yet Made In Road Rage Incident

Reports indicate that no arrests had yet been made Thursday in connection with what law enforcement officials termed a “road rage” incident that occurred near Loretto Wednesday.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department indicate deputies were summoned to an area on Lexington Highway shortly after 7:00 p.m. on a report that someone was attempting to run a driver off the roadway.

When they made contact with the 54-year-old male victim, he stated that he had been traveling toward Loretto when he was approached by a black Mustang driven by his 31-year-old passenger’s ex-husband. Also in the victim’s car were girls, ages 10 and 12.

The victim stated that the other driver first rear-ended his car. He then allegedly passed him, stopped, exited his black car, and began yelling at, and making threats toward the occupants. The victim said that the man got back into his car and began ramming his black SUV repeatedly. According to the victim, he was only able to escape when the other man slid through a ditch in his car, busting through a wooden fence.

Witnesses told deputies that it did, indeed, appear that the driver of the Mustang was the primary aggressor. They indicated that he was blocking the SUV and that once the driver of the SUV finally got past him, the driver of the Mustang crashed through the fence.

Both vehicles sustained damages as the result of the incident. In addition, deputies report that approximately 18 feet of four plank fencing belonging to David and Kelly Weathers was destroyed. Damages to the fence were estimated to be $500.
